Ponding on a roof is the collection of water due to improper roof slope or improper drainage. The added weight causes stress over seams and membranes that can lead to splits and allow water to enter the roof system. Over time, ponding water can accelerate the deterioration of roofing membranes and have many adverse effects include:
- Deformation of the deck structure
- Damage to the roof surface
- Growth of algae and vegetation
- Accumulation of dirt and debris in the ponding area
These conditions can lead to leaks, damage to roofing components and ultimately premature failure of the roof system. Multiple freeze-thaw cycles will cause damage at an even quicker rate, so it is essential to prevent water from ponding on roof surfaces.
GreenSlope Roof Ponding Repair Kit
Proper design, installation and maintenance of roofing structures can prevent this condition and its associated problems. If a deck does not provide the necessary slope to drain, the GreenSlope roof leveling compound can be used to achieve the necessary slope and to allow for moisture drainage. GreenSlope’s ease of application, wide compatibility, superior adhesion and durability make it an ideal roof pond patch and filler.
GreenSlope is a sloping material used to fill roof ponding areas and divert standing water by creating positive slope over a variety of substrates including modified bitumen, built up roofs, concrete roofs, plywood, and single-ply membranes (PVC, TPO, EPDM) Roofs. An innovative method for filling and leveling roof “ponds” GreenSlope is a blend of special binders, recycled fine mesh crumb rubber and admixtures formulated for use on a variety of flat roof systems. This fast-drying formula allows for same-day waterproof topcoating to help contractors eliminate challenges quickly and easily. GreenSlope’s high durability, wide compatibility, and simple ease of use make it an indispensable asset for roof management and preventative maintenance service divisions.
Always clean the roof surface prior to the application of primers, coatings, asphalt membranes and other types of roofing materials that require clean surfaces to ensure adhesion. Clean the ponded area as dirt collects in these areas and then rinse with clean water and let dry.
To begin application, remove all contents from the 5 gallon pail, leaving only the GreenSlope granules. Pour the polyurethane binder into the pail and mix thoroughly to achieve a consistent blend. Prime the area being repaired using the enclosed primer. Using a pointed trowel or screen board, evenly spread the material onto the low section of the roof to help bring the roof surface back to its original slope and achieve positive water flow to desired drainage areas. Tamp down with a trowel to close any open pores – especially around the perimeter to prevent water infiltration. Allow to dry for 24 hours prior to applying a coating over the surface to match the color of the existing roof and fully waterproof the area.
